The multiplayer online game World of Warcraft: The War Within is about to release Patch 11.2, titled Ghosts of K'aresh, which will lead the heroes of Azeroth to the ravaged Void homeworld of K'aresh.
With a massive amount of content, significant lore revelations, and a final dungeon boss larger than Stormwind City, players are eagerly anticipating this update.
The game director recently gave an interview, discussing everything from raid monster design to reward mechanics, all related to K’aresh.
Raid Trash
Their interview began with an interesting topic: raid trash. For a long time, the number of mobs in the dungeon has been overwhelming. While easy to kill, they’re time-consuming, and the cooldown after encounters is excessively long. The release of the new raid, Manaforge Omega, hasn’t significantly improved this situation.
However, raid reputation rewards have been adjusted, with reduced trash rewards available for reaching certain milestones, seemingly signaling official acknowledgment of the issue of excessive mobs.
One of the game’s leaders stated that the design prioritized both player experience and content exploration, while also striving for realism. For example, upon first entering a lair, players will encounter numerous bodyguards, and the intervals between boss battles have been adjusted to provide players with space to rest and socialize.
In addition, the raid reputation level has been reduced from 20 to 15, with a new reward added. The explanation is that the reputation system is designed to reflect player mastery of the content and occasionally speed up progress, and adjusting trash levels is one way to optimize dungeon efficiency.
Raid Boss
Speaking of raid bosses, people have been confused about one of the new bosses in Manaforge Omega, The Soul Hunters, which is strangely labeled as an optional encounter. In most raids, players must defeat the bosses in a specific order before they can challenge the final two or three bosses.
Optional encounters in raids are rare, occurring only in Ulduar and some Heroic/Mythic-only encounters, such as Sinestra or Ra-den.
The team leader offered some explanation for this, saying, “In my opinion, if it drops loot, it’s definitely worth fighting.”
This boss does drop shoulder-tier tokens, so I believe most raid groups will choose to fight The Soul Hunters, mitigating the damage with WOW The War Within Gold to ensure an easy completion and the best gear.
The most mysterious aspect of this boss is that it utilizes the third Demon Hunter specialization. Demon Hunter is the only class in World of Warcraft with only two specializations (instead of the usual three, Druid has four). Yet, in this encounter, they have Havoc, Vengeance, and a void-based specialization.
Regarding whether Demon Hunter specializations will be added, the team explained that this is a narrative design centered around Demon Hunter in K’aresh, exploring specialization-related dungeon encounters. There are currently no plans to add new classes or specializations.
After the interview, the team released a statement regarding the optional status of this encounter: “We’ve received feedback regarding the need to clarify the optional nature of this Demon Hunter encounter. To avoid confusion before the start of the season, we want to clarify that while players can choose to skip this encounter, the team must determine the rewards are not worth the effort.”
In addition, they stated that players will still need to complete this encounter to earn the Hall of Fame title. They thank players for their feedback on PTR and look forward to an exciting start to the new season.
