WoW Forever: Is This Classic+ Vanilla WoW Fans Have Been Waiting For?

WoW Forever matches an idea that many players have had for years: What would happen if the original Vanilla WoW were expanded horizontally, with more content added and the cut or unfinished content from Vanilla reintegrated into the game?

WoW Forever will introduce new zones, new playable races, previously unavailable race and class combinations, and extensive reworks to gameplay, dungeons, raids, and PvP, while also preserving everything players love about the original Vanilla WoW.

WoW Forever: Is This Classic+ Vanilla WoW Fans Have Been Waiting For?

This guide will provide a detailed overview of all currently known information about WoW Forever, including the main features available at launch and the new content planned for future updates.

WoW Forever

WoW Forever is a true Classic+ experience. Built around Vanilla WoW, the game expands its world with new zones and lore while focusing on horizontal progression.

In WoW Forever, level 60 remains the level cap. After reaching Level 60, players will continue developing their characters through new content and progression systems beyond traditional leveling.

WoW Forever will not include flying mounts or level scaling. The world will retain a certain sense of danger, and exploring unfamiliar areas will not simply come down to overpowering everything through level advantages.

Rather than focusing solely on levels and gear, WoW Forever places greater emphasis on interaction with the world itself. Grouping up, exploring, leveling, and building connections with other players will all remain important parts of the long-term experience.

Even if you have never played WoW Classic or Retail, you will not need to understand numerous complicated systems before gradually finding your place in the world.

Zones

Mount Hyjal

According to the currently revealed concept content, WoW Forever will introduce several new zones, beginning with a redesigned Mount Hyjal. Archimonde has already been defeated, and Hyjal is gradually recovering after the battle. Mount Hyjal will serve as an endgame leveling zone and will also contain multiple raids.

Shen'Dralas

Another new zone in WoW Forever is Shen'Dralas, located between Mulgore and Desolace. On WoW map, there are many large empty spaces between existing zones, and Shen'Dralas fills in some of these gaps. The area appears to feature Night Elf or Elven-style ruins, along with its own unique story.

Riverglades

Riverglades is located between Redridge and Swamp of Sorrows. The zone will include 115 brand-new quests, new Reputation, exclusive rewards, and alternative routes for farming WoW Forever gold. It will also feature a Goblin port, making it easier to travel to another continent and other areas.

Zephras Isle

Zephras Isle is an entirely new zone in WoW Forever and the homeland of a new race. It is home to Highborne Exiles of Forge, who are allied with the elements and spirits of the wind. Here, players will encounter the new Skyborne race.

Skyborne

Skyborne is a new race introduced in WoW Forever. Their appearance is somewhat similar to Blood Elves from TBC, but they can also become Druids and have their own animal forms. You must choose to join either Horde or Alliance from the beginning, and your faction choice will have corresponding effects.

After choosing Horde, Skyborne characters can access Shaman class. Choosing Alliance allows them to become Mages. They can also choose several classes available to both factions, including Hunter, Warrior, Rogue, and Druid.

Skyborne will have unique customization options, voices, and dances. WoW Forever development team is working to make the race feel more distinctive.

Dungeons

WoW Forever will also introduce numerous new dungeons, including Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Excavation Site, City of Dalaran, Blackmaw Hold, The Drowned City, Krol'dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison, and The Shapers Terrace.

In the past, you might have spent a long time repeatedly running the same dungeon while leveling. WoW Forever will offer more dungeon options throughout the leveling process, making the overall experience more varied.

WoW Forever also plans to add several Raids, including Barrow Deeps Raid, a Night Elf-themed Raid that may be connected to the place where Illidan was originally imprisoned.

Hyjal Summit Raid will be the largest Raid available after WoW Forever launches. With Archimonde already defeated and the battle for Hyjal over, this Raid will focus on the events that follow in the region.

Gear

WoW Forever's gear progression philosophy will remain as close as possible to Vanilla World of Warcraft. Besides the existing content, the game appears to be planning a brand-new Legendary Quest, while new Tier Sets will be introduced as additional raids become available.

Although the official images and gameplay footage currently released for WoW Forever are still limited, the available previews suggest that the new sets will feature noticeably improved visual quality, textures, and details compared with the original Vanilla gear.

WoW Forever's gear design will preserve one of Classic's most important features: class identity. Each class should have gear styles that fit its own characteristics, with new tier set bonuses further enhancing class gameplay.

Transmog will also be added to WoW Forever, but it will not be forced on all players. Instead, it will be an optional feature. If you enjoy Transmog, you can enable the relevant setting to view your own and other players' Transmog.

If you prefer the original appearance and recognizable designs of Classic gear, you can turn the feature off. When disabled, other players you see in WoW Forever will continue to display the original appearance of their equipment.

Visual

WoW Forever development team does not intend to completely change Vanilla WoW's art style. Instead, it aims to improve certain visual effects while building upon the original foundation, making the familiar world feel more alive.

These changes are primarily engine and visual technology improvements, with noticeable enhancements to lighting and environmental effects. Water movement will look more natural, while environmental effects such as the fog in Duskwood and beams of sunlight will receive further improvements.

Camping

WoW Forever's new Camping mechanic is designed to support social interaction in the open world more directly. You can establish your own camp in the open world and use different trade skills to provide various buffs. Other players can receive these buffs simply by visiting the camp and resting there.

If you have played D&D, this system is somewhat similar to a long rest. However, WoW Forever integrates this type of resting mechanic into the open world, giving Camping the potential to become a genuine social hub. You can rest, chat, find group members, or help other players there.

WoW Forever is not simply repackaging Vanilla WoW. It allows Classic world to continue developing without completely losing its original pace, sense of danger, and social experience.

If the development team can preserve the rhythm and atmosphere of Vanilla WoW while expanding the content, it could indeed become Classic+ experience that many players have been waiting for.
